Broken sites, bodies, and hearts

Our JBEG world, which as Papa noted looked like aliens invaded, was a very fine metaphor for our week. It included scheduling tonsillectomies and experiencing the highs and lows of romance. J&B decided the best way to ice the cake was to read Cyril Pedrosa's Three Shadows about the inescapability of loss and the fragility of children. Alas, the message doesn't seem to have took, as we no longer want to let go of their little hands.

March Madness

The first day of spring and Gideon found the first robin. He was in heaven. Being older and wiser, I look for my signs of brighter days in mass-mediated events, and especially the NCAA tournament, which begins today. True, my buckeyes aren't in it this year, because they pretty much choked all year (except for the one game Eli and I got to go to, thanks to the kindness of Jim P.). But I know that I can bury myself in endless games, stats, pool-management, and commentators' rehash, and when I look up at the end of it all it will really, truly be spring. Now that's truly one of Nature's miracles.

Life on the Ark

page0_blog_entry24_1

Well the snows melted and the rains came, and our winter wonderland has been replaced by Noah's backyard. Dreary stuff, made only more so by the fact that it is now snowing. The good news is that the basement is at least staying dry.... well, dryish...

On happier notes, we made our plane reservations for London today (brutally expensive, but a good warmup for the $120 fish-n-chips we can look forward to in this exchange rate). And now we're looking into weekend jaunts to Dublin and Edinburgh, too. Should be crazy fun, resulting in lots of JBEG News and lots and lots of credit card debt (doing our part to help America's recovery, by spending all our money in the U.K.).

Little Man is Sick

page0_blog_entry23_1

After 6 weeks of being laid low, we finally got a diagnosis for Gid: he has pneumonia. Which means he will finally start getting better, which is good as he has been dropping pounds all winter (and doesn't have a lot of spare). Of course he insisted on going back to the school right after he doctor's appointment, because he is a junkie. But that's how we like 'em.

A Lazy Weekend

page0_blog_entry22_1
Playing Spider-man on the Wii

OK, not too lazy (taxes, laundry, instrument practice, etc), but still somehow it felt very leisurely. Time for mindless things we haven't done enough of: videogames, webweaving, grading papers. And tonight we are off to see The Tempest, which we are all very excited about. We watched an 80s BBC production on dvd last night, which was wonderful (and wonderfully campy), but seeing it live will be a real treat for all.

The other big news to report is that Gideon now has a gallery of his art projects at "
Gideon's Wall". Check it out. Given how much time he spends drawing these days, there will be lots more to come soon.

JBEG redux

page0_blog_entry20_1

The blizzard of '08 snowed us under with nothing to do but shovel snow, drink hot chocolate, and redesign websites. So we a redesigning JBEG Inc for the 21st century rev. 2.

The storm actually lived up to the hype for once. After a dreary winter of ice storms and slush, we ended up with a March storm of 20+ inches. We put up some
pics to celebrate the storm of the year AND our new web design. It really was one of those once-in-a-childhood storms, so we made sure we enjoyed every minute of it (even the shoveling).

The kids have now missed a full week to this endless winter. One more day and they start chopping off of summer vacation. Cross your fingers that schools are back open tomorrow...
